Dr. P. Venkumar is an accomplished academician, researcher, and administrator in the field of Mechanical Engineering with over three decades of experience in engineering education. He currently serves as the Principal of Sri Vidya College of Engineering & Technology, Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Over his career, he has held several leadership positions, including Senior Professor, Head of Department, Dean, Director, Deputy Registrar, Chief Warden, and Principal, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and institutional development.
Dr. Venkumar obtained his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, and earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. He also completed post-doctoral research in Operations and Technology Management at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, in 2018.
His research interests include cellular manufacturing systems, production scheduling, soft computing techniques, smart manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies. He is a recognized Ph.D. supervisor for Anna University and Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education and has guided several doctoral scholars. His scholarly contributions include more than 65 research papers in national and international journals, over 47 conference publications, and a Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India-funded research project.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering education and research, Dr. Venkumar received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. He is also an active reviewer for international journals and a life member of professional bodies such as the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and the Engineering Council of India. His dedication to teaching, research, innovation, and academic leadership has earned him widespread respect in the engineering education community.
